How to read the ratio
The ratio divides the price of one ounce of gold by the price of one ounce of silver. For much of the 20th century it ranged between 30 and 60; in severe crises, such as March 2020, it rose above 100. A high ratio means silver is cheap relative to gold; a low ratio means it is expensive.
Some investors use it to rotate between metals — swapping gold for silver when the ratio is high and back when it is low. It is not a guaranteed signal: the ratio can stay at extremes for years.
