How to read these gold prices
Every price on this site starts from the international spot price, set in US dollars per troy ounce on the London and New York markets. To show the price in your country we convert it to grams (1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g), apply the purity of each karat and multiply by your currency’s exchange rate. The result is the value of the metal itself, before any dealer margin.
When you sell jewelry, a buyer typically pays 70% to 95% of that value; when you buy, the shop adds its margin, a making charge and local taxes. Use the spread control on each country page to estimate those numbers, or the scrap gold calculator if you are selling several pieces.

What is the spot price of gold?
The spot price is the current market price for immediate delivery of one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of pure gold, traded mainly in London and New York. Shops add a margin and, for jewelry, a making charge.
How is the price per gram calculated?
Divide the spot price per ounce by 31.1035 to get the 24K price per gram, multiply by the karat purity (for example 0.750 for 18K) and then by the exchange rate of your currency.
Why is the price at my jeweler higher?
Retail prices include the dealer’s margin, local taxes such as VAT or GST, import duties in some countries and, for jewelry, a making charge that can range from 5% to over 30%.
How often are prices updated?
Metal prices refresh about every 60 seconds while markets are open (Sunday evening to Friday evening, New York time). Exchange rates refresh at least daily.
