Understanding a jewelry price
A jeweler’s price has four parts: the gold value (weight × purity × gold rate), the making charge for craftsmanship, extras such as stones, and sales tax or VAT. Making charges commonly run from 5–12% on machine-made chains to 20–35% on handmade or designer pieces, and some shops quote a fixed amount per gram instead.
When you sell the piece back, you will normally recover only the gold value minus a spread, not the making charge or tax.
