How zakat on gold is calculated
Zakat is due at 2.5% on wealth held for one lunar year once it exceeds the nisab. The nisab is commonly set at 85 grams of pure gold or 595 grams of silver; using silver gives a lower threshold, so more people pay. Gold of lower karats counts by its pure-gold content.
Scholars differ on whether personal jewelry that is worn regularly is zakatable. This calculator includes all gold you enter; please follow the guidance of your local scholar or zakat authority.
